Pointe, Variations, Contemporary,

Beginning Jazz,

Musical Theatre

Students at the 3B and above level supplement their ballet training with additional style-specific classes.  

When available, additional classes may be offered, such

as Beginning Jazz or

Musical Theatre.

 

POINTE

Separate Pointe classes begin for students at the Ballet 3B level and higher.  

Students in Ballet 3B, 4, and 5 have a dedicated pointe class each week to

strengthen their technique and supplement their classwork.

Class: 1 hour, Once a week

Classes Available:

Pointe 3 (Ballet 3B only)

Pointe 4 (Ballet 4)

Pointe 5 (Ballet 5)

 

VARIATIONS

"Variations" are ballet solos from well-known classical ballets often practiced and performed (en pointe for female students) to strengthen and hone their individual performance skills.  Variations classes are taken as a group, and students learn a

variety of classical variations throughout the year.  Students in Variations class will perform a group version of a variation that they have learned at the End of the Year Demonstration.  Graduating Senior students usually perform a solo variation

for the End of the Year Demonstration.

Class: 1 hour, Once a week

CONTEMPORARY

 

Students with an established ballet foundation learn modern-influenced movement in contemporary class, focusing on a grounded approach, with emphasis on floor-work, barefoot articulation, expanded upper-body and torso movement, and improvisational/partner-work concepts when appropriate.  Emphasis on musicality, fluidity, coordination and rhythm with a wide variety of music/movement influence.

Class: 1 hour, Once a week

Contemporary 3 (Ballet 3B or Instructor Approval)

Contemporary 4 (Ballet 4 or Instructor Approval)

Contemporary 5 (Ballet 5)

 

 

MUSICAL THEATRE

Students learn to loosen up, communicate, work with mixed-level peers, and

explore an exciting new movement style influenced by the varied genre of American Musical Theatre.  Emphasis on confidence, stage-presence, musicality, coordination

and rhythm with a wide variety of music/movement influence.

Class: 1 hour, Once a week

Students Eligible:

Ballet 3B, 4, or 5

 

 

BEGINNING JAZZ

Students expand their training by learning classic jazz movements, steps, and technique.  An emphasis on building confidence, stage presence, musicality, coordination and rhythm is incorporated.

Class: 1 hour, Once a week

Students Eligible:

Ballet 1, 2, 3A
