Student Spotlight for April 2018!

The IBA Career & College Guidance Program is pleased to feature Logan Acker in its April 2018 Student Spotlight as our "Super Scholar/ Dancer."  Logan is a high school senior and will graduate as valedictorian of her class of 545 students at South Carolina Connections Academy.  She will also dance the principal role of Swanilda in International Ballet's Coppélia on Saturday, April 14 at the Peace Center's Gunter Theatre.  

 

Logan began dancing at the age of 4 and has received the majority of her ballet training at International Ballet Academy under Vlada Kysselova, Victoria Yanchuck, Irina Ushakova, Lena Forster, Hennadii Bespechnyi, Alexander Tressor and others. At age 11 she was invited to join the International Ballet Junior Company, and, at 13, she became a Senior Company member. She has performed in numerous IB mainstage, chamber, and community performances, including the Greenville Symphony’s Orchestra's Holiday at Peace concert, International Ballet’s Storytime Ballet program with the Greenville County Library, and Greenville’s Artisphere.  Notable roles include Nikiya from La Bayadere, Pas de deux from Don Quixote, Act III (Cincinnati Ballet SI 2017); “Spanish” from Swan Lake, Act III ;Markitenka pas de six; “Central Park” (Alexander Tressor) Nayada & the Fisherman Suite (Entre, Variation, Coda); “Toy Soldier” from Babes in Toyland; “Blue Bird” pas de deux from The Sleeping Beauty; “Odalisques” pas de trois from Le Corsaire; “To Mother with Love” (Juliana Jordan); “Masquerade Waltz” (choreographed by Vlada Kysselova) “Freskies” from The Little Humpback Horse; “Cherries” duet from Chipolino; “Playground Paradox” (Juliana Jordan); International Ballet’s Giselle: Giselle’s friend, Wili; “Oceans & Pearls” from The Little Humpback Horse; “We Regret to Inform You” (Juliana Jordan);  “Metropolitan” (Juliana Jordan); and numerous soloist roles in International Ballet's The Nutcracker.

 

Logan performed with International Ballet at the 2015 Southeastern Regional Ballet Association (SERBA) Fall Adjudication in Atlanta and the 2016 SERBA Dance Festival in Durham, NC. Logan has attended summer programs at International Ballet Academy, Cincinnati Ballet, the School of American Ballet, and Chautauqua Institute, both Workshop II and Festival. Logan has also been accepted to summer programs at Ballet Austin, Boston Ballet, Ellison Ballet, Gelsey Kirkland Academy of Ballet, Harid Conservatory, Houston Ballet, Kirov Academy of Ballet, Miami City Ballet, Nashville Ballet, Next Generation Ballet, Pacific Northwest Ballet, Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre, and San Francisco Ballet.  She has been accepted to college dance programs with scholarships at Butler University, Cincinnati Conservatory of Music, and the University of South Carolina. 

 

Logan was the 2016-2017 co-recipient of the Cassandra Gary Memorial Scholarship. In March, 2015, Logan was named Student of the Month at IBA. She is also a member of the National Honor Society for Dance Arts, IBA Chapter. She is a member of the National Honor Society, an "A" Honor Roll student, and a Duke Tips Program designate. She has volunteered with IBA's Summer Dance Camps. She is the daughter of Doug and Liz Acker of Simpsonville.
