Each year, generally starting in January, ballet students flock to auditions for summer dance programs. These programs are held around the country, and the most competitive ones are, naturally, held at some of the nation's top ballet schools and companies or at universities with renown dance programs. A few, like Chautauqua, one of the most competitive, are held at locations only open in the summer in a "camp-like" setting. The auditions usually wrap up in March, although some continue to accept students late into the spring.
IBA's students generally do well at these auditions, and we are proud that we have each year had students accepted at some of the top summer ballet programs in the country. Also, IBA holds its own Summer Intensive in June, and many students choose to stay closer to home and train with the academy's world-class guest instructors and regular faculty. This year, IBA will welcome more than 60 students to its intensive, some from as far away as Alabama. Many IBA students will attend our intensive before leaving for another program.
