The IBA Career & College Guidance Program is pleased to feature Gabrielle Wimberly in its Student Spotlight for February, 2017. The theme this month is "Senior Spotlight".
"Gabby" has been studying ballet since the age of 3, dancing most of those years at the South Georgia Ballet Conservatory training under Alison Bundrick, Emily Chapo, and Henry Hernandez, before moving to Greenville to study with Vlada Kysselova and Juliana Jordan at International Ballet Academy. She was invited to join International Ballet's Senior Company in 2015. Gabby performed in numerous productions with the South Georgia Ballet, and she has performed with International Ballet in mainstage, chamber, and community performances, including the Greenville Symphony Orchestra’s Holiday at Peace. She danced in the 2015 Southeastern Ballet Association's (SERBA) Fall Adjudication in Atlanta, and she performed in the opening dance, "Odalisques Pas de Trois" from Le Corsaire on the final night of the 2016 SERBA Festival in Durham, NC.
Gabby's roles and repertoire with International Ballet include Chinese, Mirliton, Snow, and Waltz of the Flowers from The Nutcracker; and Kitri's variation from Don Quixote and the Nayada and the Fisherman Suite at the 2016 Fall Chamber Concert, where she also appeared in Alexander's Tressor's premiere of "Spa de Quatre". She also performed in “Odalisques pas de trois" from Le Corsaire, “Masquerade Waltz" (which was also performed at SERBA), in “Tarantella” as a soloist, and in Juliana Jordan's "To Mother with Love" at IB's Features & Fairytales. She also danced in “Valse Magnifique”, in Juliana Jordan's “Playground Paradox” and in Royal Sec “Champagne Galop”, which she also performed at Holiday at Peace, along with “Rudolf the Rednosed Reindeer".
Gabby performed with the South Georgia Ballet in The Nutcracker as Clara, the Sugar Plum Fairy, and Lead Peppermint, and in Beauty & the Beast as Chip, in The Sleeping Beauty as Princess Florine, in Alice in Wonderland as a Card, in The Princess and the Frog as a Butterfly, and in The Wizard of Oz as the Lead Soldier. She also performed a variation from Esmeralda at the American Dance Competition.
Gabby has attended summer programs at Joffrey Ballet South, Next Generation Ballet, The Rock School for Dance Education, the South Georgia Ballet, World Ballet, and International Ballet Academy. Gabby is a senior and honor roll student at St. Joseph's Catholic High School. She contributes 20 hours of volunteer service each year and is the daughter of Bill and Kim Wimberly of Simpsonville.
