The IBA Career & College Guidance Program is pleased to feature California Clark in its Student Spotlight for January, 2017! "Cali" was chosen by IBA's directors as our "Super Scholar" in honor of her academic and extracurricular achievements.
Cali has been dancing since she was 3, studying at Miss Marion's School of Dance in Spartanburg, SC under Lori Axelrod, Shauna Axelrod, and Susan Harris; and at International Ballet Academy since the age of 11, training under Vlada Kysselova, Irina Ushakova, Victoria Yanchuck, Alexander Tressor, and contemporary with Juliana Jordan. Cali has performed with International Ballet in The Nutcracker in Snow and Waltz of the Flowers, and as a Cupid, Big Mouse, Soldier, and Angel; and she danced as a peasant girl and wili in IB’s Giselle. This is Cali’s first year in the IB Senior Company. She performed with the Junior Company at the IB Fall Chamber Concert, Storytime Ballet with the Greenville County Library, in Features & Fairytales, and at Greenville’s Artisphere. Before that, she danced with International Ballet Academy’s Studio Performance Group.
Cali has attended IBA's Summer Intensive and Mitchell Kelly Contemporary Workshop. She danced in Disney's Electric Parade at Walt Disney World in Florida and has appeared in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City with Miss Marion's.
Cali was recently awarded a $64,000 annual scholarship to attend Wesleyan University in Middletown, CT, where she plans to attend as a business major with a focus on the performing arts. She is a senior at Paul M. Dorman High School, where she is an “All A” honor roll student and a member of the National Honor Society, Beta Club, French Club (officer) as well as the president of the Future Business Leaders of America, with which she participated in the organization’s national conference in Chicago. She is the recipient of the Quest for Excellence Law Award and the AP Scholar Award. She also plays cello with the Dorman High Philharmonic Orchestra and is a member of Junior Leadership Spartanburg. She has done mission work in New York City. She is the daughter of Beth Clark of Moore.
